About the MHP Charity
The Project

The Maun Homeopathy Project is a charity applying for registration.

Charity Goal:

to establish a permanent and free homeopathic service for people living with HIV and AIDS and/or traumatised by rape in Maun, Botswana.

Charity Purpose:

to work in partnership with existing services to fill the gap for holistic care for people living with HIV and AIDS and/or traumatised by rape through the provision of homeopathy.

In particular, the project provides homeopathy as a complementary medicine:

  • to relieve suffering from the effects of trauma, shock and grief
  • to improve physical and emotional health and wellbeing
  • to reduce distressing symptoms and the side-effects of other treatments

Seeds of Success

In 2004 funds were raised within Botswana (from the Bill Gates Fund) and from individual donations for a three-month Pilot Project which was run May, June and July 2004.

The Pilot Project successfully developed a model that provided outreach homeopathy clinics at local voluntary agencies (NGO’s) for clients and staff.

There was a strong sense from the evaluation that there had been a marked improvement both in the symptoms that people were experiencing and in their general ability to cope with the huge stresses in their lives.

Meeting Immediate Need

The MHP is now raising money to provide an all year round service staffed by homeopaths from the UK and South Africa to provide immediate crisis healing for this community traumatised by HIV or rape.

Ensuring Longterm Sustainability

In liaison with the Ministry of Health in Botswana, the MHP is developing a strategy for the training of local people in homeopathy so that the service will eventually be run by Botswana homeopaths.
