HOMEOPATHY AID TO GO OVERSEAS

A KINGSBRIDGE homeopath is poised for a mercy trip to Botswana to administer to HIV and AIDS sufferers there.

Julia Hunn has a homeopathic practice at the Kingsbridge Complementary Health Practice with additional practices in Plymouth and Totnes. Botswana has a huge number of HIV and AIDS sufferers with 35 percent of the population affected.

Homeopathic treatment has been very effective in helping with the symptoms of HIV and AIDS and regular clinics have set up on a daily basis working in partnership with local agencies.

Ms Nunn is aged 44, has been a homeopath since 1989 and is formally qualified and registered with the Society of Homeopaths.

She plans to leave for Botswana on February 18 for seven weeks, but needs help with the costs. Although the charity she is working with will provide her with living expenses and transport in Botswana, Ms Nunn needs to raise £900 for the airfare.

She said: ‘My colleague and friend Hilary Fairclough started visiting Botswana in 2002 and has built up solid relationships out there. ‘She has founded a registered charity called the Maun Homeopathy Project and is organising homeopaths to work as volunteers. I am one of those.

‘HIV, malaria, TB, the side effects of drugs, rape trauma, bereavement and neglect are the type of cases taken on by the homeopaths who work in pairs.

‘To raise funds, Nicholson’s are raffling a box of organic chocolates in the shop, and I am holding a quiz night at the Thurlestone Village Hall on January 20.

‘I am also a singer in a local duo, Soulmates, and I plan to hold a musical evening at some stage, venue and date to be announced.

‘I still have some way to go, but the support so far has really touched me and I hope I carry the healing wishes of all those who have contributed so far with me to wherever they are needed.’

If anyone is interested in the fundraising events, or looking into donating to the charity, the website is www.homeopathybotswana.com
