Mokute’s Story

Mokute is an HIV posiitve mother of four who lives in an isolated village in the Okavango Delta where we provide a regular outreach clinic. She first came to see us in March 2011 complaining of a terrible sharp pain between her shoulders preventing her from working in the fields. She also had a very small appetite  and was losing weight. Her partner had died leaving three of her children fatherless and in addition her current boyfriend and father of her fourth child was not supporting her financially and threatening violence towards her. She was very frightened.

We saw Mokute again last month and she reported that she had been well for two years – her appetite was  much improved and her back pain had gone. The situation with her boyfriend had resolved and she had been able to work in the fields and support her family. She said ” I am happy now, all my stress is gone.”
